Point Reyes Light features our Vision Plan for Felix Cove
This article from the Point Reyes Light shares the history, the present urgency, and the future we are building at Felix Cove. It details our campaign to rematriate these sacred homelands and create a Felix Family Living History Center for healing and Indigenous renewal.
It also shares an urgent call: we need to gather 1,000 signatures to show the National Park Service the strong community support behind our Vision Plan.
Creating an Indigenous future for Felix Cove
This year the National Park Service took a significant step forward by essentially ending commercial ranching in Point Reyes National Seashore. But current conversations around the Park’s future have yet to invite community perspectives, including Indigenous ecological scientists and traditional ecological knowledge holders. This absence of Indigenous voices calls us to share our vision plan for Felix Cove as presented to NPS in 2023. Grounded in community participation, it focuses on the creation of an Indigenous community vision that brings back the beauty and abundance nurtured by the ancestors.
Through an Indigenous lens: Imagining the future of Point Reyes National Seashore
A landmark settlement announced in January will essentially end commercial ranching in Point Reyes National Seashore. For Alliance for Felix Cove founder Theresa Harlan, this represents an opportunity to bring Indigenous ecological knowledge and traditions to the work of restoring vital ecosystems.
Resistance through Reconciliation
Confronting the injustice woven through Indigenous histories raises righteous anger. But when we intentionally engage in difficult conversations with open hearts, we strengthen authentic connections needed to power a broader movement to return Indigenous lands to Indigenous hands.
